Autumnal Bridal Glamour at The Gardens, Yalding: Modern Half Up, Soft Smokey Eyes

As a specialist Kent Wedding Hair and Makeup Artist, I love working across all seasons, but nothing compares to the stunning beauty of an autumn wedding in the Garden of England.

Recently, I had the pleasure of organizing a beautiful styled shoot at the magnificent The Gardens, Yalding. Held in October, the venue’s historic 12-acre grounds were bursting with spectacular autumnal colours—the perfect backdrop for showcasing a modern, seasonal bridal shoot.

The Hair: Sleek and Glamorous Half Up Half Down

 For our beautiful model, the brief was a modern yet elegant bridal hairstyle. We opted for a half up half down wedding hair style, which is one of the most requested looks for Kent brides wanting to balance polished structure with movement.

The key features of this style were:

• Sleek Sides: The hair was neatly pulled back at the sides for a contemporary, polished finish.

• Soft Hollywood Waves: Using high-quality hair extensions for luxurious length and thickness, the cascading loose hair was styled into beautiful, soft Hollywood waves (also known as glam waves). This created a rich, voluminous texture that looked breathtaking against the rustic autumnal tones of The Gardens, Yalding.

The Makeup: Kim K-Inspired Neutral Smokey Eye and Glow

My makeup inspiration for this shoot was the golden light and natural earthy tones of the October garden. I drew heavily on a Kim K-inspired super soft smokey eye, focusing on sculpting and definition rather than harsh lines.

I achieved this neutral, sophisticated depth using a curated selection from the popular Makeup By Mario palette, which is rich in gorgeous autumnal browns and taupes.

The rest of the look was pure radiance:

• Glowy, Glossy Skin: We prioritised a flawless, glowy and glossy skin finish—a must for achieving that high-end look that photographs beautifully in soft, diffused light.

• Neutral Pop: A fresh, pink cheek using Charlotte Tilbury Pinkgasm,  lifted the complexion, complemented by a soft, neutral lip to keep all the attention on those beautifully defined eyes.
