Why do I need professional hair and makeup for a photo session, can't I just do it myself?
This is the most common question I get! While you’re great at your everyday look, professional photoshoot hair and makeup is a different technique entirely. My expertise is in knowing how studio or natural light, high-definition cameras, and flash will affect the look. I use specific high-performance, long-wear products that prevent shine, eliminate "flashback" (the white cast from SPF), and contour features so they don't look flat on camera. Investing in a professional means your final Branding shoot, Boudoir, or Fashion images will be polished, dramatically reducing the need for costly and time-consuming retouching.
How should I prepare my skin and hair before my photoshoot appointment?
To get the best results for your camera-ready look, please arrive with clean, dry hair and a moisturised, product-free face.

Hair: Wash your hair the night before or the morning of the session, but please do not use straighteners or heavy oils unless specifically instructed. Clean, dry hair holds style and curl much better!

Skin: Exfoliate the day before and apply your normal moisturiser/eye cream, but avoid applying any heavy serums or oil-based foundations right before I start. This clean base allows the professional products to adhere perfectly, ensuring a long-lasting photoshoot makeover.
How long does the hair and makeup session take, especially for a full makeover?
To ensure a flawless, unhurried result for your session—whether it's a Maternity photoshoot or a detailed Editorial look—I typically book 1.5 to 2 hours for a full hair and makeup transformation. This includes a few minutes for a final consultation, the detailed application of your look, and any minor adjustments needed once you are dressed or ready to go on set. For shoots requiring more intricate or multiple looks (like some Fashion shoots), we will schedule additional time, which will be confirmed during the booking process.
I have a specific style in mind for my session. Do you offer a consultation?
Absolutely. A detailed consultation is key to my process. For every photoshoot styling booking, we will discuss your specific vision, the wardrobe, the photographer's style, and the overall mood of the shoot (e.g., soft and romantic for Engagement or bold for Branding). I strongly encourage clients to share inspiration photos and their Pinterest boards so I can fully understand the desired aesthetic, guaranteeing your photoshoot hair and makeup perfectly complements the final image goal.
Do you travel to my location for my shoot?
Yes, I am a mobile photoshoot makeup artist and stylist! I provide on-location hair and makeup services for all sessions, allowing you to relax and get ready in the comfort of your own home or the designated studio/venue. I cover London, Kent, Essex and Surrey. A small travel fee may apply depending on the distance from my base, which will always be outlined clearly in your custom quote.
What kind of products do you use, especially for sensitive skin or close-up portrait shots?
I maintain a professional kit featuring high-end brands known for their performance, longevity, and exceptional quality. I exclusively use products formulated for High Definition (HD) photography that offer a flawless finish without looking heavy. I also carry a variety of products suitable for sensitive skin. If you have known allergies or concerns, please let me know during the consultation; you are always welcome to provide your own sensitive-skin-friendly foundation or mascara, though my goal is to ensure your Portrait hair and makeup is fully taken care of.
